Cassandra Chiu is an accomplished and professional woman who takes her blindness in her stride. In 2012, she was honoured with The Singapore Woman Award and the Social Innovation Park Fellow. Cassandra has represented Singapore in international swimming and bowling competitions throughout the world, and was awarded the Singapore Disabled Sportswoman of the Year 1996. She graduated from Swinburne University with a Masters of Science Degree in Professional Counselling and now runs her own psychotherapy practice, The Safe Harbour Counselling Centre, helping individuals and families to manage a wide range of issues and to maximise their potential. She also founded a consultancy business The New Perspective, which offers motivational talks, inclusive awareness workshops and barrier-free consultancy – specifically for the support of the visually impaired. Her hope is to change what it means to be blind, not only for herself and her community, but also society at large.
